AUSTIN CHRONICLE AUSTIN CHRONICLE Reviews Long Live the Infidel
May 16, 2008

"With their second LP, Long Live the Infidel, the Wailing Walls stage a two-act classic rock opera steeped in the tradition of the Who's Tommy but with an alternative edge that recalls the Daron Malakian-led moments of System of a Down's double album, Hypnotize/Mezmerize."

TEXAS MUSIC
TEXAS MUSIC Reviews (Here Come The) Mandible
Summer 2007/Issue 31
By Geoff Johnston

"Austin pseudo-supergroup Mandible is one-third arena-rock band, one-third jam band and one-third escaped mental patient. It features folks from FantazmaGordo, Damnations TX and Loudest Boom Bah Yea delivering elaborate, epic arrangements within two- to three-minute spans. And it does it quite well. The title track quickly and efficiently pummels the ears with robotic jingle, cosmic-prog synth and stuttering, "YYZ"-era Rush drumming. Beach Boys harmonies, speakeasy pianos and tropical vibraphone collide into a weekend-long hemp festival on "Rubber Pants," and the regal horns and spiraling melodies of "Emerald City Hall" are enough to give every member of Atlanta's Elephant Six Collective a raging boner – even the girls. "Crap Miser" moves from skipping hippie jam to orchestral pop to off-kilter garage metal with the swiftness of a younger, thinner Black Francis, a.k.a. Frank Black of The Pixies. Front man Phillip McEachern has a knack for hilariously bizarre imagery, as evidenced by lines such as "judging the world from the cat-pee couch" and "Vincent Van Gogh got in a fight with Thomas Kincaid, Painter of Light." Lyrics like that reward listeners who appreciate a twisted turn of phrase."

February 1, 2007

Grand Champeen, Li'l Cap'n Travis, the Golden Apples, Mandible, Tammany Hall Machine, Moonlight Towers, Mike Nicolai, and the Hackberries are just a handful of the local artists paying penance to the Davies catalog.
